The Director of the Cinema Organization of Iran, Mohammad Khazaei, convened a meeting with cultural advisors of the Islamic Republic in neighboring countries, emphasizing the importance of fostering new avenues for international collaboration. The gathering, hosted by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, served as a platform to strengthen cultural exchange and cinematic ties between Iran and its neighboring nations
According to the Public Relations Department of the ICO, Khazaei outlined a clear and strategic roadmap for the organization's international engagement. He emphasized that their approach is not exclusive but rather focused on building strong connections with countries that share cultural, religious, and linguistic commonalities with Iran. Khazaei highlighted the potential of cinema as a powerful tool for cultural diplomacy, stating that it can play a pivotal role in bringing nations together and fostering cultural proximity.
While acknowledging the untapped potential of cinema, Khazaei expressed that Iranian cinema has not yet achieved its desired international goals over the past four decades. He attributed this to the need for structural reforms and breaking free from stalemates in global markets. Khazaei emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving international landscape, arguing that traditional methods of engagement are no longer sufficient for effective participation. Despite his initial proposals and emphasis on innovation, he expressed disappointment in the resistance to embracing new ideas and structures in the international arena.
However, Khazaei remained optimistic about future prospects. He shared that the ICO has numerous plans in motion, aiming to leverage the capabilities of both the private and public sectors. By collaborating with cultural advisors, he hopes to open new horizons and strengthen Iran's cultural presence globally. Khazaei clarified that their goal is not to have every Iranian film succeed in the global market but to encourage Iranian filmmakers to embrace global trends while celebrating and showcasing the country's rich cultural heritage.
Co-production, Khazaei suggested, is a strategic path forward. He revealed that the ICO has requested a significant budget for initiating co-productions with the aim of producing at least five feature films. Acknowledging the current budgetary constraints, Khazaei assured that they will persist in their efforts to facilitate co-productions and ensure their successful distribution in regional and like-minded countries.
Emphasizing the organization's readiness for film weeks and collaborations with all nations, Khazaei highlighted the role of cinema in shaping the narratives of a new civilization. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by cultural advisors in promoting Iranian culture beyond borders, despite the limitations and challenges they face. To attain cultural prowess alongside military and scientific advancements, Khazaei stressed the need for a unified national vision and a strong commitment to cultural diplomacy.
He encouraged filmmakers to focus their narratives on promoting national pride and safeguarding Iran's historical and cultural identity. Khazaei commended the strong national sentiment among artists, who prioritize strengthening domestic issues and respecting the national flag. While most Iranian artists embrace this perspective, he lamented that some remain oblivious to the importance of cultural preservation and the promotion of national pride.
Khazaei assured the cultural advisors of the ICO's willingness to collaborate and promote Iran's rich culture through the powerful medium of cinema. He hinted at upcoming interactions, emphasizing that the signed agreements should translate into tangible benefits for Iranian cinema and its people. Expressing gratitude to filmmakers who strive to elevate Iranian culture and showcase the country's achievements, Khazaei concluded by mentioning plans for cinematic collaborations with 27 countries, based on shared political, religious, cultural, and strategic commonalities.
